Wireless Networking and Computing – Atheros is a leading provider of high-performance, low-power, highly-integrated 802.11 solutions for a wide array of applications. Atheros XSPAN®, the company’s 2-stream 11n family of solutions, is the most widely adopted multi-stream 11n technology in the industry, employed by ten of the top ten PC OEMs, five of the top five retail networking vendors, nearly all of the enterprise networking manufacturers, and many of the leading carrier gateway manufacturers. XSPAN products are complete single-chip solutions, which feature throughput levels up to 300 Mbps PHY rates, provide reliable signals to enable whole-home coverage and offer dual-band 2.4/5 GHz connectivity. In Q4 2009, Atheros launched XSPAN
with Signal Sustain Technology (SST3), a family of 3-stream 11n solutions for computing and networking. With 450 Mbps PHY rates and an average increase of 50% over 2-stream in throughput across the length of the signal, XSPAN with SST3 is idea for providing whole home coverage for the most demanding advanced multimedia applications.

Align® is Atheros’ single-stream 11n technology, which is used in netbooks and value-class notebooks by 9 of the top 10 PC OEMs and in access points/routers of five of the top five retail networking vendors. Align began shipping in Q4 2008 and has had the fastest and largest-volume chip ramp in Atheros’ history. Based on the 1-stream 11n standard, Align offers up to 150 Mbps PHY rates and 11n-class coverage in the home and on the go.

Mobile WLAN –– In Q4 2009, Atheros launched its AR6003 ROCm® chip for mobile WLAN, combining the performance and low power of the industry-leading AR6002 with Atheros Align 11n technology. The result is Atheros’ highest performance mobile WLAN solution which provides up to 85 Mbps of actual end user throughput, yet maintains ROCm’s low-power efficiency.
The AR6003, in single- or dual-mode options, is available in small form factors to enable wireless features in consumer products such as dual-mode smartphones, gaming devices, VoIP handsets, portable media players and digital still/video cameras. Atheros ROCm mobile WLAN solutions are now designed into well over 100 handheld and mobile devices.

Ethernet –Atheros provides its customer base of PC OEMs and network equipment customers with the ETHOS™ family of Ethernet solutions. This growing portfolio contains both Gigabit and Fast Ethernet options for switch, controller and PHY products and features Atheros green ETHOS Technologies. Atheros Ethernet solutions have achieved market-leading low power, exceeding requirements for the European Code of Conduct for power efficiency. In fact, the AR8151 is the industry’s smallest and greenest Gigabit Ethernet controller and is among the first to comply with the new IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet draft specification.

GPS – Atheros offers the industry-leading FYX™ Location solutions for GPS applications, featuring the new, third-generation, single-chip GPS receiver, the AR1520, and companion Atheros FYX™ 1.0 software suite. The Atheros AR1520, based on the FYX location core, delivers greater navigation accuracy, faster location fixes, enhanced receive sensitivity, and lower power consumption, which makes it an ideal solution for mobile consumer products such as personal navigation devices (PNDs), netbooks, smartbooks, portable gaming devices, media players and smart phones.

Bluetooth® –Atheros’ ROCm portfolio for Bluetooth products features the AR3011 for PCs, which supports the Bluetooth 3.0 + High Speed specification to give users the benefits of the simplicity of Bluetooth pairing and operation combined with the speed and energy efficiency of 802.11. Atheros’ Bluetooth 3.0 solutions leverage high-performance 802.11a/g/n technology to increase the speed of Bluetooth by more than 10 times. Atheros delivered the industry’s first 1-stream 11n WLAN solution in combination with Atheros’ Bluetooth, targeting the PC OEM segment. Atheros introduced the AR6133 in Q4 2009, the smart combination of the AR6003 11n with Bluetooth 3.0 for mobile applications.

Powerline – Atheros’ AMP™ family of high-performance PLC solutions serves applications for broadband networking in the digital home and low-power Smart Grid. Atheros’ newest solution, the AR7400, is the first powerline product to support both the IEEE 1901 and HomePlug AV standards and offers PHY rates of more than 500 Mbps over powerline and 700 over coaxial cable. When combined with Atheros’ highest performance 11n, XSPAN with SST3, the AMP technology will provide a Gigabit of whole home coverage to make every room in the house HD-capable.
